Inter-active talk on ‘Multiple Intelligence’ theory developed by Howard Gardner, professor of Education at Harvard.

Talk Time- 75 minutes

Post discussion and questions answers 30 mnts. (Caution: I ask too many questions to the audience).

Howard Gardner professor of education at Harvard University has developed and put forth the Multiple Intelligence Theory in 1983 in his book Frames of Mind. It says Human intelligence is multifaceted rather than singular. According to Gardner, we possess not one but eight distinct forms of intelligence: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist.  Our schools and culture focus most of their attention on linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligence, but we should also place equal attention on individuals who show gifts in the other intelligences: the artists, architects, musicians, naturalists, designers, dancers, therapists, entrepreneurs, and others who enrich the world in which we live. Unfortunately, many children who have these gifts don't receive much reinforcement for them in school. Many of these kids, in fact, end up being labeled "learning disabled," "ADD (attention deficit disorder," or simply underachievers, when their unique ways of thinking and learning aren't addressed by a heavily linguistic or logical-mathematical classroom. The bottom line is a deep interest in children and how their minds are different from one another, and in helping them use their minds well."

I have gone behind childhoods of people we look up to- Sachin Tendulkar, Javed Akhtar, Aparna Sen, Jogen Chowdhary, Sanjeev Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan, Kiran Bedi etc and have tried to document forces that have sculpted them into what they are. How did they come upon their forte? What support, space and tools were made available to them...so on and so forth!
